Calling Ditidaht Artists!

The Art Program for the new Quw'utsun Valley Hospital / Quw'utsun Hulitun-ew't-hw is developing Indigenous-specific art locations that will honour the Nations served by the new hospital.

The installation of Indigenous artwork will play an essential role in creating a welcoming, comforting and culturally safe healthcare environment for community members.

One of the displays near Indigenous Health Services,“Paddling Together,” is an opportunity for the new hospital to acknowledge the contributions of the Nations that the hospital will provide services to. We are looking for a Ditidaht First Nation carver to carve and paint a Nuu-chah-nulth-specific paddle to represent Ditidaht First Nation at the new hospital. The paddle’s dimensions are 5ft by 6″ by 2″. There is a $350 honorarium for the carving, and $2095 for the carved design and painting. The yellow cedar wood blank will be provided to the artist(s).

The deadline for submissions is July 30, 2026.

The deadline for the completed paddle is October 30, 2026.
